Single motorcycle headlights or headlamps are usually 5.75" or 7" in diameter. Although traditionally most headlights are round, it is possible to get triangle, rectangle, cone shape or even gothic iron cross headlights amongst other designs. Bates lights are the classic design with ribbed headlight lens and a thick bezel trim around the light, available with traditional filament or halogen bulb. Nearly all modern headlights use halogen H4 bulbs and are required to have a dipped and full main beam to meet EC regulations. Twin double or even triple headlights are also available, the most popular ones being a double oval wave headlight with clear or blue lens and a frogeye dual twin headlamp which combines two 3.5” lights.

Headlights and headlamps are bottom or side mounted. Side mounted lights mount to the forks and require separate mounting brackets, sized according to the diameter of your forks. Bottom mount lights are usually mounted between the forks attached to the triple tree or alternative mounting point. There is an increasing choice of headlight lens available, from the traditional ribbed lens to clear or diamond cut. This is a mostly cosmetic choice to match your custom look. Finally peaks or visors can add a distinctive look (or are integrated into the design of the light), with most headlights available in chrome or black.
